Fear has the worst reputation among business owners.
Don’t listen to it and ignore it is the top advice you’ll hear most often.
But if you ask me, it’s not always that simple.
Being scared isn’t necessarily a bad thing (after all, fear is what kept humanity alive), so completely blocking what fear has to say may not be that great of an idea.
However, there are moments when you shouldn’t believe a thing that hushed voice is saying.
With that being said, here are the five most common lies fear has you believe about your business and the real truth about them!
#1: You’re not good enough
Yes, the Impostor Syndrome is real — and believe it or not, even the most experienced entrepreneurs sometimes feel out of place.
But don’t let this thought be the roadblock on your way to the top.
TRUTH: OF COURSE you’re good enough!
And if there’s still something you don’t know or you aren’t feeling 100% confident about — you can always learn as you go!
The truth is, you’ll never feel that you’re ready enough but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get started.
Remember, action always beats fear!
#2: No one’s going to buy what you sell
This is probably one of the most convincing lies fear’s going to tell you.
But you know better than to believe it, right?
TRUTH: Your ideal customer’s going to buy what you sell…
…and if you make the right offer, they won’t even care about the price.
That’s why it’s extremely important to have a very, very narrow idea of not only why you do what you do but who you’re here to serve.
The more detailed you can be about your ideal customer, the easier it’s going to be to attract it!
#3: Others are doing this too
Ah, good ol’ competition.
Nothing triggers fear more than realizing others do what you’ve wanted to do all along!
TRUTH: No one’s doing it the way you’re doing it
Let’s face it: among almost 8 billion people, it’s highly likely that someone somewhere had the same (or at the very least, a similar) idea as yours.
However, while someone may have the same concept, they certainly don’t have the same story, the same energy, and the same ways you do. And that’s what makes you authentic!
Trust me when I say, the people you’re supposed to work with are always going to find their way to you, one way or another.
#4: You need to make this perfect
Are you on your 106th rounds of edits and feeling immensely stuck in a project that was once supposed to be fun?
Well, this one’s for you then.
TRUTH: You just need to get this going
Repeat after me: done is better than perfect.
Focus on building that momentum, not obsessing about perfection. Actually, no matter how much time and energy you waste polishing a project, in the end, you’ll almost always edit it based on the feedback you’re getting.
Pro tip: Do a soft launch of whatever it is you’re doing and then edit according to feedback!
#5: You’re a failure if…
Insert your favorite IF! Here, I’ll go first:
…if you ask for help.
…if you don’t succeed on the first try.
…if you don’t tick everything on your to-do list.
Sounds familiar? I bet it does.
TRUTH: You’re NOT a failure
Even if for some crazy reason your business happened to fail (which, if you’re reading this, I’d say is highly unlikely — look at just how much you’re learning!), then that in NO WAY defines your worth as a person.
Remember, it’s never a failure; it’s always a lesson. You can always brush off and keep going even after the fall, right?
